Update 6: Literary Arts has launched the Booth Emergency Fund for Writers and Oregon Humanities is offering emergency funding for organizations. Both have deadlines coming up in May, which have been added to the calendar below.

Update 5: RACC has established an Emergency Artist Relief Fund to which you can apply and donate. They have also set up a page listing other relief resources.

Update 4: Two local Relief Funds for small businesses and artists have been set up if you’d like to apply for support or offer donations. They are the Portland Small Business Relief Fund and the Portland Area Artist Emergency Relief Fund. Literary Portland is not personally associated with either of the funds, so, please direct all questions etc. to their respective organizations.

Update 2: A “stay at home” order has been issued by Gov. Kate Brown. See also this FAQ from OPB. Until the order is lifted, you can assume all in-person readings and events have been cancelled. We’ll continue to update things to match organization and stores’ calendars etc., but heed Brown’s orders and updates from officials on proper actions. Hope you all can stay safe, healthy, and cozy with a good book at home!

The Work Poetry Workshop: Monday Night Edition

April 29, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Free – $20
Angst Gallery, 1015 Main St, Vancouver, WA 98660 + Google Map

Join us on Monday, April 15 and 29 for The Work, a poetry writing workshop at Angst Gallery led by Christopher Luna.

“Well, while I’m here I’ll do the work — and what’s the work?
To ease the pain of living. Everything else, drunken dumbshow.”
― Allen Ginsberg, “Memory Gardens” (Fall of America, City Lights)

The Work is a drop-in poetry writing workshop for beginners as well as more experienced writers. Poetry encourages empathy and compassion, and sparks the shifts in consciousness which can lead to healing, personal growth, and an interest in fighting for progressive social change.

The Monday Night Edition of The Work takes place at Angst Gallery (1015 Main Street, Vancouver) from 6-8:30 pm on the second and fourth Monday of each month. We will read and discuss poetry, and write several new poems together.

$20 suggested donation; no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

Bring a poem to share as a way of saying hello.

Shareable snacks are also welcome and very much appreciated.

Upcoming 2019 Monday evening workshops will take place on May 13, June 10 and June 24.

Note: The Work also takes place at Niche Wine Bar (1013 Main Street, Vancouver) from 11:30am -2:30pm on the second Saturday of every month, unless otherwise noted. Upcoming Saturday afternoon workshops will take place on April 13 and May 11.

If you are looking for writing coaching, editing/manuscript review, or information about poetry and memoir classes, send Christopher an email via printedmattervancouver@gmail.com.
