As ordinary human beings we try to imagine what lies ahead. It’s what people do.

We plan, schedule, coordinate… and then life happens – in all its blooming buzzing confusion.

Storytellers Rick Huddle, Janice Alexander, Charles McConnell and Kelly Hoffman share stories crafted to make you feel the delight, the joy, and the longing that accompanies everyday living.

Stories about a new father’s diaper skills… a young girl’s choice after the KKK burns a cross in her town……one man’s decision after losing his spouse… and the true story behind the lyrics of a well-known song.

Join us for these stories and more….stories of laughter and challenge, triumph and tragedy, unexpected opportunities and unintended consequences.

You never know what’s right around the bend.

He has been a storyteller at the Bay Area Storytelling Festival, the Art of Story, Tapestry of Tales, the National Storytelling Festival- Exchange Place, and is a Moth Story Slam winner. In summers, he teaches performing arts at Camp Yakety Yak: a camp for children with special needs. In his spare time, you might find him diving for ultimate Frisbees, spinning around in a Cyr wheel, or hanging out at Posie’s coffee shop.

Rick believes that stories, songs, and laughter can help us better understand ourselves & each other- especially those with whom we don’t agree. He lives in Portland, Oregon with his talented and charming wife, Kristin, and their wonderful little twins, Gus & Marlo.                http://rickhuddle.com

Janice Alexander, a kindly grandmother, lived alone in the woods for such a long time that she forgot how to speak. However, after a fortuitous encounter with the Newberg goat woman and her many entrancing goat stories, Janice regained her ability to talk and has been telling tales ever since.Janice is a retired schoolteacher who continues to find pleasure in creating with story and also with clay. She joined the Portland Storytellers Guild shortly before retirement because it is just so much fun!

Chuck McConnell came to Portland in 2010 after two careers in public broadcasting, one at stations (in 7 states) and one at a national association serving the public broadcasting industry; and a Peace Corps stint in post-Soviet eastern Europe. He’s lived in 11 U.S. states and traveled extensively in all 50.Chuck claims that his penchant for storytelling is “genetic.” And he has proof: a 1914 certificate given to his father (who was in second grade at the time) recognizing “excellent work in the oral reproduction of stories.”

Kelly Hoffman has been telling stories to delighted audiences since grade school, only now when she does it she (usually) doesn’t get in trouble any more! Kelly has been performing on stage for over 16 years for audiences of all ages. Take sheer physical power coupled with dynamic cadences, throw in a rich and varied life filled with powerful personal experiences and you start to get an idea of what an evening with Kelly is like.

Throughout her life, Kelly has been a member of the Merchant Marines, a Firefighter, an Officiant, a Marriage and Family Therapist, a Mom, a Wife, and a Storyteller. She has also been a winner, a loser, a fighter, a lover, a jerk, a kind woman, and everything in between. Kelly has two master’s degrees, each focusing on the healing benefits of storytelling in society and in families. Her passion for for story comes from the pure joy, connection and community created when the right story is told at the right time in the right way to the right people. Whether a story of courage or comedy, you’ll find yourself relating, connecting and cheering for all the right reasons.
