OUR FEATURE: Robert Lashley

A 2016 Jack Straw Fellow, Artist Trust Fellow, and nominee for a Stranger Genius Award, Robert Lashley has had poems published in such journals as Feminete, Seattle Review of Books, NAILED, Gramma, Drunk in a Midnight Choir, and The Cascadia Review. His work was also featured in Many Trails to the Summit , an anthology of Northwest form and lyric poetry, and It Was Written, an anthology of poetry inspired by hip hop. His full-length books include THE HOMEBOY SONGS (Small Doggies Press, 2014) and UP SOUTH (Small Doggies Press, 2017). His latest chapbook, THE GREEN RIVER VALLEY, was published this year.

MINI-FEATURES FROM:

David Paz-Mendoza

David Paz-Mendoza is the transgender son of two Mexican immigrants. Born and raised in Portland, Oregon, he strives to express the joys and sorrows of growing up in America as a queer brown human. Having first-hand experiences with racism, gender, sexuality, immigration, and child labour/abuse, David invites us to see the people burning under the hot topics of today’s political turmoil. David performs regularly at several open mics around Portland and is currently healing his heart as a daycare teacher for kids under 5. Although he is postponing his last year of college until next year, David hopes to graduate with an English degree that will advance him to a masters and doctorate in the future.

***

Sign-ups start at 5:30, show starts at 6PM. On second and fourth Saturdays each performer in the open mic gets 5 minutes, there are only 8 slots available and the list order is randomized.

Come share your words and join us for a night of open mic, great poetry features and get nourishment & libations from Rocking Frog Cafe (home of the best donuts)! 🙂
