We are against hate which targets continually marginalized people, no matter if they are Asian, Asian-American, Pacific Islanders, Black, Indigenous, people of color, and LGBTQ+ identifying. We support movements for reform, protest, and equality. A collection of resources and organizations working toward these efforts, and those which offer support, can be found here.

We will continue to amplify marginalized voices, and welcome all, their ideas, their events, and their words. Our words here are not enough, but we wanted to say we support you and will continue to do so through our actions.

An additional list of support and relief funds can be found here.

Workshop: Tell Your Story! Risograph Printing and Zine Making with Kate Bingaman-Burt & Leland Vaughan (3 weeks)

June 28 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

Free
NM Bodecker Foundation, 2360 NW Quimby St, Portland, OR 97210

This workshop will focus on risograph printing and zine making, with an emphasis on using printmaking and books as vessels for your ideas and creative experiments. We’ll explore mark making, drawing, not-drawing, storytelling, collage, and more all through the lens of printing and zines! Zero drawing experience is needed—all are welcome! We kick perfectionism to the curb as we explore different materials, styles and concepts and make a collaborative riso-printed zine together. This workshop takes place primarily via Zoom with field trip dates to Bodecker and Outlet to be announced. Transportation stipends are available.

Monday and Weds 11-12:30pm | June 28, 30, July 7, 9, 12, 14 (no class Monday July 5; meets Friday July 9 instead)

Kate Bingaman-Burt (she/her) mostly draws, letters, documents, and collects, but she also does a lot of other things that involve energy, conversation, and exchange. Kate is a full-time educator and makes illustrations for all sorts of clients all around the world. She is a Professor of Graphic Design at Portland State University and also shares her knowledge and enthusiasm for drawing, making, documenting via talks, workshops and online classes. Kate owns Outlet, a risograph print studio and community space that hosts workshops, pop-up events and is home to a small gift shop full of printed goodies and a big zine library.

Leland Vaughan (they/them) is a printmaker, designer, and illustrator living on the unceded lands of the Clackamas, Multnomah, Cowlitz and Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde known as Portland, OR. They love the intersection of empathy and design practice and are super passionate about social justice, intersectionality, accessibility, and the ways creative and educational spaces can offset oppression, process trauma, and elevate marginalized voices. They currently work as the studio manager of Outlet where they get to print and nerd out about risograph printing to anyone who will listen. They believe print is a great equalizer in terms of accessibility to information and mutual aid and work to make those services available through Outlet. They also help maintain the space, organize events and workshops, and print as much as they possibly can.
