This workshop will consist of three eight-week terms. Writers currently working on memoirs, essay collections, novellas, novels, short story llections, oral histories, and long-form journalism are all strongly encouraged to apply. Hybrid forms welcome. Over the course of 24 sessions, writers will work towards a draft of a manuscript in a supportive workshop environment.

We’ll explore non-linear solutions in addition to more traditional approaches. The workshop will culminate with the publication of a journal featuring excerpts of works-in-progress. This project will provide writers with a general understanding and overview of book publishing.

In addition to workshop prep, there will be assigned readings throughout the year. We’ll look at texts by Alexander Chee, Toni Morrison, Svetlana Alexievich, Javier Marías, Elissa Washuta, Alejandro Zambra, Heidi Julavits, Colson Whitehead, Joan Didion, Hanif Abdurraqib, and many others. Each week, writers should expect to spend one to two hours on homework in addition to the time they set aside for writing.
