Portland Correspondence Co-op

PDXCC is a monthly gathering where participants make and share analog correspondence in the great mail art tradition of Ray Johnson and Anna Banana: art and conversation through the mail. This uniquely democratic, DIY art form incorporates writing, drawing, collage, rubber stamps, faux postage, decorative tape, typewriters – anything goes, as long as it goes through the mail. Hang out, skill share and send the glorious results through the mail. Monthly events hosted by the Portland chapter of the Correspondence Co-op and Niko Courtelis. Basic materials will be on hand (scissors, glue sticks, envelopes’85), but you’re encouraged to bring whatever materials fuel your creative spirit. Man of Letters: A Retrospective Exhibition: Allen Q. Wong

Portland Chinatown Museum 127 NW Third Ave, Portland, OR, United States

Continuing through June 23, 2019 In fifteen original compositions of English letters and Chinese characters formed in pen and brush work, Man of Letters traces the career of acclaimed Oregon calligrapher Allen Wong. Youngest son of Wong On, poet, and founder of Hung Far Low. Allen spent 19 years as a graphic designer in New York City before returning to Oregon to start the Graphic Arts program at Oregon State University. Influenced by Lloyd Reynolds' modern calligraphy movement, Wong developed his own style of abstract impressionist Chinese calligraphy. His work has been exhibited throughout the United States and Europe. Man of Letters is the first installment of the Portland Chinatown Museum's new series of exhibitions celebrating the work of Portland Chinatown artists.

Join us to learn about silkscreen printing! Learn how to create stencils, prep and process screens while gaining knowledge about tools, tips, and tricks for the photo emulsion process. You’ll have the chance to acquire best practices for setting up your print station, printing and registration while gaining practice with the medium.
