From Reed College's website: Arini Esarey received a BA in studio art from Reed College in Portland, OR and a Bookbinding Diploma from North Bennet St School in Boston, MA. She studied Islamic calligraphy in Las Arts Turs, Istanbul, Islamic bookbinding, calligraphy and papermaking at Scripps College, and Persian and illuminated manuscripts at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. She was the recipient of the Fath Scholarship at the Rare Books School at the University of Virginia in 2015. Esarey will bring many examples of her work and run a workshop in coptic binding following her talk. In this 5 hour class we will turn old hardcover books into a durable journal that will lay flat when open but is sturdy enough to carry with you everywhere.
