Jolabokaflod: Books for NYE 2018!

Nordic Northwest 8800 SW Oleson Rd, Portland, OR, United States

Bringing the Icelandic celebration of "Yule Book Flood" to Portland for the first time! Jolabokaflod is a national holiday tradition in Iceland where people exchange books as gifts on Christmas Eve then spend all night hiding away and reading them over mugs of hot chocolate (spiked or not!). We want to bring this tradition to Portland, but for New Year's Eve, so come on down to meet indie authors and buy books, hear Nordic music and fairy tales from talented performers, and sample other Scandinavian traditions at Nordia House. Then relax and enjoy a safe, snug, *hygge* New Year's Eve at home, cuddled up with a book. Ahhh...a perfect way to start 2019! Book Fair Schedule: 4:00 PM – Amy Hakanson, musical performance Amy has…

The Book Burger Reading

Belmont Books 3415 SE Belmont St, Portland, OR, United States

On August 10th, a group of local authors across multiple genres invite you to spend the evening with them. It's an invite unlike many you'll come across, wherein we want you to meet us for a bite to eat at Nick's Famous Coney Island to celebrate the last day of Burger Week before a reading at Belmont Books. After each author reads for about ten minutes, we'll head over to Rendez Vous down the block for a cocktail or tea. What we want is a community of readers who get to know the authors, find new ones, and branch outside their favorite genre–if not just to tell a friend. Belmont Books is a lovely, if not smaller bookstore. That means you we may be at…

Suspense and Treats: Sweethearts (a novel by Elizabeth Mitchell)

Broadway Books 1714 NE Broadway, Portland, OR, United States

Come join me (Elizabeth Mitchell) at Broadway Books for the launch of my new literary suspense novel, SWEETHEARTS! Nineteen years after finding Laura Hurst in a frozen lake, Ada Bailey agrees with her therapist: it’s time to revisit Lynn Pond and confront the past. But Silynn holds more than memories. Decades-old secrets tumble out as Ada explores the town she was sent away from, though her return dredges up more than sordid pieces of the townsfolk’s lives. Sam Pruette, a collector of innocents, worries Ada may remember details from that frigid day in November of 1988. Laura was only the first sweetheart. On Wednesday, October 2nd at 8 pm, I will be reading from SWEETHEARTS. There will be cookies, drinks, and cute take-home conversation heart…
