Hope Amico of gutwrench press is coming to the northwest for Olympis Zine fest and is making a stop in Portland to lead this one day workshop. In this 5 hour class we will turn old hardcover books into a durable journal that will lay flat when open but is sturdy enough to carry with you everywhere. We will prepare the pages and covers, and then learn the coptic binding to assemble the book. Students will leave with a finished book to take home. All materials are provided. Together, we will learn about using our sketchbooks as a daily devotion of personal storytelling. Looking at the intersection of word&image, and the ways that some artists use the poetics of image alone, we will distill what is most important for each of us.
