Future Prairie VIII: The Veil

Please join the artists of Future Prairie for our autumn show, hosted at the gorgeous Bodecker Foundation! As we transition from summer to autumn, the equinox asks us to honor the changing seasons with a balance of light and dark. Traditionally, this is a time for gathering, grounding, and comfort. The veil between the spiritual and mortal worlds is particularly thin around the autumnal equinox. Our variety show is inspired by the chautauquas of the 19th and early 20th centuries, where people from all walks of life came together to experience education, entertainment, and culture for the whole community, with speakers, teachers, musicians, and entertainers. Submission Deadline: Future Prairie: Performance Proposals

Call to artists! We are seeking performance proposals for our autumn variety show on the evening of 29 September in Portland, Oregon. Future Prairie VIII: The Veil please submit: dance music short plays poems lecture ritual As we transition from summer to autumn, the equinox asks us to honor the changing seasons with a balance of light and dark. Traditionally, this is a time for gathering, grounding, and comfort. The veil between the spiritual and mortal worlds is particularly thin around the autumnal equinox. What are you divining? What will soon be revealed? What’s still enshrouded? We invite artists to submit 10-20 minute works to this open call. Pay for each act will be $50-$100. Send proposals to futureprairie.com/apply by 29 August for consideration.

The Unseen

The Unseen is a curated exhibition showcasing marginalized artists in their personal work to freedom and self expression. We are looking for female, non-binary, and LGBTQ artists willing to share their personal journey’s as the Unseen, those who have been shut out or quieted by the greater artistic establishment. Here we may give voice to ourselves. We are looking for visual artists, acoustic performers, spoken word artists, or performance based works. The event will be open to the public and will include a private showing of the first scene of the Quiet Crowd. Have tacos, desert, and listen to La Vie En Rose with us in the dining room.

Future Prairie Screening + Q&A

Please join us for a free screening and showcase of recent interdisciplinary work by Future Prairie artists, followed by a Q&A. Founded in January 2018 by Joni Renee Whitworth in Portland, Oregon, Future Prairie is a 501c3 non-profit organization and artist collective led by women and queer creatives. We develop and mentor emerging and under-represented artists. We also produce a monthly podcast, host a quarterly variety show, and curate exhibitions, panels, performances, and published works. When we say “under-represented artists”, we are specifically referring to creatives of different abilities, races, gender identities, national origin, religion, and age.
