In this two hour workshop attendants will make a four panel diary comic of their own, which will be assembled into a zine distributed to each attendee after the event! We’ll start off by looking at a wide variety of diary comics and then talk the basics of how to construct an effective comic. Then we will help each other explore mediums and ideas to create their own four panel masterpiece. At the end of the class we will scan our pieces, and a zine with the classes participants will be sent out a few days after the class is done! hopefully you’ll leave inspired and try your hand at creating daily diary comics for weeks or months a time. We are excited to announce our newest publication, Carlos Gonzalez’s ‘Gates of Plasma’. This 320 page opus weaves a kaleidoscope of narratives and characters into an astonishing dreamscape that examines human flaws and our quest for connection, oblivion and transcendence. Grab some popcorn and take a seat… The curtain is about to rise on a film like no other! But first, the real-life backstory: Giraffes on Horseback Salad was a Marx Brothers film written by modern art icon Salvador Dalí, who’d befriended Harpo. Rejected by MGM, the script was thought lost forever. Author and film buff Josh Frank unearthed the original script, and Dalí’s notes and sketches for the project, tucked away in museum archives. With comedian Tim Heidecker and Spanish comics creator Manuela Pertega, Frank recreated the film as Giraffes on Horseback Salad: Salvador Dalí, the Marx Brothers, and the Strangest Movie Never Made (Quirk), a graphic novel in all its gorgeous full-color, cinematic, surreal glory.
