The Gravity of the Thing's Summer 2019 reading period closes today, July 31st. They're accepting defamiliarized works of short stories (3,000 words or less of fiction, nonfiction, or hybrid), flash works (under 500 words), poetry (up to 3 poems or 500 words or less), six word stories (up to 5 pieces), and brief essays for their Baring the Device column. Simultaneous submissions are welcome, only previously unpublished works will be considered, and they ask you to only submit once per reading period. Booksellers are encouraged to send works fitting the theme of Westerns. They pretty much publish just about any type of genre or form. Simultaneous submissions welcome, but no previously published works will be considered. Submissions over 3,000 words may not be considered. One to two fiction pieces only for each theme, or, if sending shorter works under 1,000 words each then up to three. Up to 7 poems per theme. Up to 4 – 12 images for art. Submission Deadline: Oregon Literary Fellowship

Offering a variety of awards for work in the genres of poetry, fiction, nonfiction, young readers, drama, and publishing. Eleven fellowships carry the award of $3,500, while two will be for $10,000. Must be a current, full-time resident of Oregon. Poetry: 15 typed pages of poetry, one poem per page. Prose: No more than 25 pages double-spaced. Drama: No more than 25 pages. The Unseen

The Unseen is a curated exhibition showcasing marginalized artists in their personal work to freedom and self expression. We are looking for female, non-binary, and LGBTQ artists willing to share their personal journey’s as the Unseen, those who have been shut out or quieted by the greater artistic establishment. Here we may give voice to ourselves. We are looking for visual artists, acoustic performers, spoken word artists, or performance based works. The event will be open to the public and will include a private showing of the first scene of the Quiet Crowd. Have tacos, desert, and listen to La Vie En Rose with us in the dining room.
