HOCUS: Submissions Open!

HOCUS is now accepting submissions of prose and poetry of up to 2000 words for our next (hopefully) live event at the Rose City Book Pub in NE Portland. This event will take place on Tuesday, August 3rd from approximately 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. The theme is Talismans. Send us your poems, fiction, and creative nonfiction which deals either directly or obliquely with this theme. HOCUS is looking for work in the literary genre. If your work flirts with other genres like sci-fi or fantasy, it may be in our wheelhouse, but the term "literary" should come first. No hard sci-fi or sword-and-sandals gladiators or the like, please. To submit, go to our website and click on the Submit tab. Submissions close July 11th.

We are working in a virtual space and plan to keep doing that until Dr. Fauci says it’s okay to do live shows again. The Milwaukie Poetry Series: Paulann Petersen

(link is external) Paulann Petersen, Oregon Poet Laureate Emerita, has seven full-length books of poetry, most recently One Small Sun from Salmon Poetry in 2019. Her poems have appeared in many journals and anthologies, including Poetry, The New Republic, Prairie Schooner, Willow Springs, Calyx, and the online Poetry Daily. She was a Stegner Fellow at Stanford University and the recipient of the 2006 Holbrook Award from Oregon Literary Arts. In 2013 she received Willamette Writers' Distinguished Northwest Writer Award. The Work Poetry Workshop: Saturday Afternoon Edition

Join us on the second Saturday of every month for The Work. The Saturday Afternoon Edition of The Work takes place from 11:30am-2:00pm on the second Saturday of every month.
