Today, author Josh Funk joins us to read from his new picture book, Short and Sweet (Sterling), illustrated by Brendan Kearney. Lady Pancake and Sir French Toast are back with a twist: they’ve been transformed into small children. Now it’s a race against the clock to turn our favorite duo into grown-ups again! Lady Pancake is aching; Sir French Toast’s looking pale. Could they be going… STALE? Maybe a visit to Professor Biscotti’s lab for her despoiling procedure will help. But instead of beautifying them, Biscotti accidentally transforms the two treats into toddlers! Frightened of the now gargantuan (to them) Baron von Waffle, the mini breakfast foods scamper off on an adventure in the fridge, visiting everywhere from the Bran Canyon to Limes Square. Will…

DREAMs Deferred Live

Online N/A, Portland, OR, United States

Stories have power. We believe the most important stories often come from the immigrant community. Despite the historic Supreme Court ruling in June protecting DACA recipients, some groups continue to challenge the rights of undocumented immigrants. Now is the time to listen to the stories of individuals who have grown up undocumented in the United States. In partnership with the City of Beaverton, The Immigrant Story presents “DREAMs Deferred Live,” a two day event featuring one night of soulful music and another night of moving storytelling by immigrants in our community. To kick off this week long celebration, we invite you to hear five compelling stories told — and lived — by members of our community who grew up with American values without feeling valued…

Telltale: Nothing Ever Goes Away

Online N/A, Portland, OR, United States

Hey, champ! Thanks for checking out Telltale. This used to be a monthly curated storytelling event for people that like to get vulnerable and take no shit, and perhaps it will be again. We are into genuine connection, laughter, heartbreak, poignant moments, and community building. We, in theory, should be just kicking off our 4th season, but...things got real weird. So I can’t promise that Telltale is back, because the future feels pretty hard to predict or commit to. But we are at least going to have a September show. Yeah, it’s going to be on zoom and not in person. Yeah, it’s not the same. But it’s better than nothing. And I said I’d do the show until the government stopped making me angry…
