This 3 hour session will introduce you to the poetic form of Erasure, which is the practice of erasing words from an existing text to generate new poetry / visual art. Together, we'll look at published examples of erasure, and discuss what might make our own erasures successful. Before we meet, I'll assign a brief reading which will we use to center our discussion. I'll also provide materials for erasure, including books, random prose texts, white-out, scissors, glue, markers, etc. If you already have a text you'd like to erase, please feel free to bring it along. This special workshop for Prompt alumni will feel like an expansion of one’s previous Prompt workshop experience. It's "Prompt plus" in partnership with the Independent Publishing Resource Center (IPRC)! Participants will still generate new writing together and will also engage in expanded writing exercises and focused re-(vision) activities. The final two workshops will take place at the IPRC studio where participants will receive instruction on how to design and produce risograph prints of their own work. Searching for a space to create new work with fellow writers of color? This two-hour workshop meets once a month on Sundays. Writers can register for one or more sessions. A variety of prompts will be presented as avenues for generating and sharing new work in an informal setting. Open to writers of color at all levels writing in poetry, fiction, or nonfiction. Intro to Risograph Printing In this 4-hour introductory course, participants will learn the basics of risograph (riso) printing and will leave with an understanding of how to use this print technology to create zines, fliers, posters, or other printed matter. While this technology is not new, riso printing has recently become one of the most exciting developments in independent printing and publishing because of its cost-effectiveness for print runs between 25 and 1,000. Workshop participants will learn how to best maximize the many quirks of riso printing to achieve striking results.
