A group for anyone writing nonfiction or memoir who would like company, support, and, most of all, accountability. Whether you’ve never written a word or you’re a published author, join us!
PDXCC is a monthly gathering where participants make and share analog correspondence in the great mail art tradition of Ray Johnson and Anna Banana: art and conversation through the mail. This uniquely democratic, DIY art form incorporates writing, drawing, collage, rubber stamps, faux postage, decorative tape, typewriters – anything goes, as long as it goes through the mail. Hang out, skill share and send the glorious results through the mail. Monthly events hosted by the Portland chapter of the Correspondence Co-op and Niko Courtelis. Basic materials will be on hand (scissors, glue sticks, envelopes’85), but you’re encouraged to bring whatever materials fuel your creative spirit. Free and open to the public, every third Tuesday of the month

Join fellow writers the first Wednesday of the month for a friendly critique. The goal is to support one another with constructive feedback and participate in writing exercises. All experience levels welcome!
Creation Island is a generative writing salon hosted in Portland, Oregon. Why island? Do you know how islands are formed?? They bubble up from the magma or snap off from other land masses, and they have their own ecosystems and their own rules. We’ve been forming islands for years. We’re all about eruptions and watching the lava flow. We make space for you to write HELP and other messages on the shore, then kick down sandcastles and build new ones. In celebration of National Handwriting Day, come together to quietly hand copy the U. S. Constitution. It is an opportunity for refection on the meaning and content of this foundation of self-governance, using tools that are available to all of us: pen and paper. Free copies of the U. S. Constitution will be avail- able for all participants. Bring a writing tool and paper (some paper and pens will be on hand). A free “Handwriting Tips” informational sheet will also be available. This event is a partnership between Handwriting the Constitution and Handwriting Success.

Join us on for a drop-in Italic Handwriting & Calligraphy Club, all experience-levels welcome. Monday afternoons from 2-4pm for eight weeks, September 30th through November 18th. Following the lineage of Portland’s own Lloyd Reynolds and Jaki Svaren, learn about posture, motion and breathing in alignment with calligraphic strokes. Through learning Italic and using it as a daily hand, we can bring beauty, attention, and rhythmic flow into our everyday script. $20-45 sliding scale
