Telling the Story of Portland – Mayor’s Office Native Art Project

The Portland Mayor’s office, working in partnership with the Native Arts and Cultures Foundation, is looking to showcase the work of 3-4 Native artists. The theme is to tell a story of the Indigenous Peoples in the Portland Metropolitan area, past, present, and future. Selected artwork will be purchased for the City of Portland’s art collection and will be installed in the lobby of the Mayor’s office. INTENTION: In an effort to increase Native American visibility and convey a more equitable perspective of Portland’s history, artwork created by Native artists will replace portraits of previous mayors that are currently displayed in the entrance to the Mayor’s office. You will hear stories from every level of teller; seasoned, first timers, or those in between. Many people come at first just to listen to stories but decide over time to give storytelling a try. Swaps are a safe place for people to take those first steps into the world of storytelling. We like to get in as many tellers as possible. However, we only have so much time. Get to know Outlet and our RISO sisters (Barbara, Janet, Corita, and Tina) and learn the basics of this fun and unique print method with Kate Bingaman-Burt! IPRC is honored to be selected by Creative Laureate Emeritus Subashini Ganesan and the City of Portland to create a healing through art collective project. Poetry Is A Prompt is a collaborative poetry project that we invite you to participate in.
