Lit Crawl: To Gay or Not Too Gay

Ace Hotel 1022 SW Stark St, Portland, OR, United States

What makes writing queer? When D. H Lawrence wrote about men wrestling in front of the fire, his homoerotic undertones stirred controversy. Lilian Hellman's writing was banned for both the erotic undertones between women in a boarding school and revolutionary politics. Heteronormative society has categorized queer writing by the sexuality it portrays, but what do queer people identify as uniquely queer writing? Like other marginalized writers, queer writers walk a line between alienation and assimilation. Don your bow tie or boa and join us while we talk about hand-holding, man wrestling, fashion and what truly makes a uniquely queer aesthetic and identity on the page--and in life. Join Karelia Stetz-Waters, Gillian Herbert, Tammy Lynne Stoner, and Mark David Gerson for this scintillating panel.
