Intro to Letterpress: Two Day Workshop

Day 1: Typesetting Essentials Day 2: Printing Essentials Learn to set moveable type and print on table top and poster presses in the IPRC print shop. You’ll learn the vocabulary of printing and typesetting while getting a feel for this beautiful and historic process. Gain access to IPRCs collection of over 150 fonts of lead and wood type. AWP 2019 // Burning Deck Exhibit and Tribute to the Waldrops

A display of Burning Deck publications from the past 60 years, including rare letterpress editions and magazines, along with a casual reading celebration, with many collaborators, friends, and former students of the Waldrops reading from favorite Burning Deck or Waldrop books. Featuring Alejandro de Acosta, Rae Armantrout, Kristin P. Bradshaw, Lee Ann Brown, Matthew Cooperman, Danielle Dutton, E. Tracy Grinnell, Aaron Kunin, Sawako Nakayasu, Jena Osman, Lisa Pearson, Sarah Riggs, Martin Riker, Cole Swensen, Lynn Xu, Magdalena Zurawski, and others. Exhibit open from 6 to 9pm, readings begin at 6:30 and 8:00. Presented by Wave Books and PNCA's Low-Residency MFA in Creative Writing.

The C.C. Stern Type Foundry and Museum of Metal Typography is holding an open house from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 30. Housed in a Northeast Portland industrial complex, the foundry and working museum are dedicated to cultivating the connection between the art of fine letterpress printing and the industry of making the metal ornaments and type that it requires.
