The C.C. Stern Type Foundry and Museum of Metal Typography is holding an open house from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 30. Housed in a Northeast Portland industrial complex, the foundry and working museum are dedicated to cultivating the connection between the art of fine letterpress printing and the industry of making the metal ornaments and type that it requires. Come and visit one of the only type foundries between San Francisco and Vancouver, BC, and see how type is made. Contact: Joseph Green

The Regional Arts & Culture Council (RACC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that serves artists, arts organizations, schools and residents throughout Clackamas, Multnomah, and Washington counties. RACC advocates for public and private investments in the arts, provides grants for artists and arts organizations, manages public art, raises money through workplace giving, conducts arts education in public schools, and provides community services, including workshops for artists, organizational consulting, and a variety of printed and electronic resources. Come meet and mingle with RACC staff and enjoy light food and drinks as you learn more about our programs, opportunities, and ways to support the arts and culture of the Portland metro area.

At Oblation Papers & Press, we employ traditional techniques to make sheets of cotton paper by hand using recycled remnants from the garment industry, and letterpress cards, stationery, and invitations in our print shop. Visitors are welcome to come tour our papermaking studio and letterpress print shop. We will have letterpress and papermaking demonstrations throughout the day and evening.

Come and join us for our Design Week Open House! Along with the normal Outlet offerings, we will be featuring a HUGE archive of illustrated works from Kate's grandma Nan Pollard from her 55 year career as a children's book illustrator. Born in 1925, Nan Pollard knew she liked to draw from an early age. She won awards for her artwork in both junior high and high school, and went on to study at the Layton School of Art in Milwaukee. She has built a prestigious career as an illustrator and was continually sought out by publishers for the quality of her work.
